A great way to start! The Chesapeake Film Festival offered just the right blend of entertainment, education and inspiration. Plus a terrific variety of films and people behind them to talk to. Bravo! I'll be back next year . . . with more friends in tow!

The Chesapeake Film Festival is scheduled for September 18-20, 2009
In the meantime, join us for these summer events:

Chesapeake Film Festival Fundraiser July 15 Features
“HomeGrown” Screening & Reception

“Homegrown” is an inspiring true story of a family “living off the grid” in the heart of urban Pasadena, California. Written by Robert McFalls, the film is an intimate human portrait of what it is like to live in “Little House on the Prairie” similitude during the 21st Century.

By dawn, Pasadena’s interchange of 134 Freeway and Interstate 210 is thrumming with traffic. But just a hundred feet away, the Dervaes family has been up for hours. With less than a quarter acre, their thriving tiny green oasis annually produces an amazing three tons of organic produce. They create their own bio-diesel, power their computers with the help of solar panels, and maintain a website that generates 4,000 hits per day.

According to writer Robert McFalls, “HomeGrown is ultimately a family story. It’s about what leads them to where they are today, what changes them and what keeps them close. Perhaps by learning of their journey to a sustainable life style, we might be inspired to take their own first step.”

On July 15, the Chesapeake Film Festival will feature the 52-minute documentary, “HomeGrown”, at the Academy Art Museum. Following the documentary which will begin promptly at 5:30 PM, attendees will have an opportunity to discuss the film at Out of the Fire Restaurant while enjoying food and beverages. Reservations are required and credit card guarantee. Call 410-770-4777. Admission is $75 per person; $30 is tax deductible.

The Chesapeake Film Festival
Features Free Screening of “Local Color” July 23

Coming to Easton, Maryland on July 23, 2009 is an outstanding film based on a successful artist who looks back with loving memories on the summer of his defining year, 1974.
“Local Color”, written and directed by George Gallo, features a teenage aspirant artist from New York, John Talia, who is struggling with his homophobic father that can’t see his talent or understand the influence of art. While visiting a friend John stumbles across a magnificent painting created by a genius Russian artist Nicoli Seroff. Once his friend reveals the master painter lives nearby, he pays his idol a visit only to find an elderly intoxicating man that has turned his back on art and life.

Surprisingly the early tenuous relationship did not alter John’s determination to learn all the secrets the master locked away inside his head and heart. Seroff’s life appears pointless to him until the teenager revives an interest in his painting and ultimately gives him the will to live. Together, they give one another a priceless gift. John learns to see the world through the master's eyes and the master learns to see life through the eyes of innocence again. This story is based on a real life experience.

“Local Color” is an inspiring film about art, talent, friendship, and making a difference in someone’s life. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to present this story at the Historic Avalon Theatre during the 4th Annual Plein Air-Easton! Competition and Festival”. “We believe reaching out to the artists and community during this prestigious event allows the Chesapeake Film Festival to continue to serve its mission to entertain, enrich and inspire by bringing the finest in narrative, documentary, and short film to the Chesapeake Bay Community “, said Marie U’Ren, Director of the Chesapeake Film Festival.
